As Downtown Asheville's oldest brewery and tasting room, Green Man Brewery has been doling out delicious brews for years. Green Man is also known for its development of the first sour program in the area, which brought about a variety of new and iconic brews to the beer scene in Asheville.
Brews at Green Man are broken up into a variety of different categories: the Legendary Ales, Rarities, the Archive, and the Hazy Homage Series. The Legendary Ales are the constants on the menu, with the ESB (Special Amber Ale), IPA, Porter, Trickster (IPA), Wayfarer (IPA), Green Man Lager, Tart Berry (Berliner Weiss), Hop Hustler (Exbeerimental Ale), and The Rainmaker (Double IPA). Rarities includes seasonal brews like Holly King (Barrel-Aged Holiday Ale) and brews that have limited availability due to the amount of time it takes to age, such as Maceo (American Sour Dark Ale with Cherries) which requires 12 months to age.
Beers at Green Man are all-natural. The main ingredients are mostly malted barley, hops, water, and yeast. All beers use a natural clarifying agent that is derived from kelp, and corn syrup of any kind is not used. All of the barley and hop varieties are non-GMO, all-natural, and are processed by traditional methods, without additives or chemicals.
Brewery Tours are available at Green Man from Thursday through Saturday, during which visitors will peruse the brewery, learn about its history, get to taste a selection of four of the brewery's flagship and specialty beers, and visit all three of its buildings (including two brewhouses). Complimentary gift bags are given to all participants.
