Gordon Biersch Brewery is all about creating a fun and friendly atmosphere that serves fresh, handcrafted beer. Opened for business in 1997, the state-of-the-art brewery focuses on recreating old-world traditional recipes while using modern-day technologies and techniques. Operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week, the brewery produces only the highest quality craft beer using Hallertauer hops, two-row malted barley, and yeast from Weihenstephan, Germany.
The 114,000-square-foot brewing facility was engineered and designed by Dan Gordon, one of the company's founders. Gordon also oversees the entire brewing operation, which is kind of a big deal considering that he graduated from a highly-respected program at the Technical University of Munich in Weihenstephan, Germany. Considered one of the most prestigious research breweries in the world, the Weihenstephan campus specializes in teaching students to become master brewers or brewery technologists.
The brewery operates 24 hours a day and seven days a week. A few of the craft beers brewed in the facility include Cliff Hanger Marzen, Hefeweizen, Full Pressure Pilsner, and Cave Raider Blonde Bock.
The only way to visit the brewery is by arranging a private tour. They can be scheduled Monday through Thursday at 6 p.m. for groups between 15 to 25 people. It's recommended that tours be booked at least two months in advance. During a private tour, you'll learn about the Gordon Blersch brewing process and then get an inside look at the plant. The tour concludes by allowing guests to sample beer taken directly from the tanks.
All guests must be at least 18 years old to tour the facility and 21 years of age or older to participate in the beer tasting. Guests must show proof of age before the tour and photography is not permitted. Tours are free and typically last one hour.
Gordon’s motto, “Every guest, every time," sums up his commitment to providing each guest with exceptional hospitality and service. For this reason, each tour of the facility is completely unique. Visitors will appreciate an engaging experience that makes you feel welcome. The below video clip offers a brief look at what you may see on a brewery tour.
