Gallup Park is known as a great starting point for both kayak and canoe trips that are popular in the Ann Arbor region. Hosted by the Gallup Livery, the park offers organized tours down the regional waterways. There is a variety of watersport activities for friends and families of all ages—paddleboats, canoes, rowboats, rafts, tubes, SUP boards, and kayaks are all available to rent. The Gallup Livery is also known as a great gathering place with the opportunity to enjoy ice cream, WIFI, baked goods, and coffee all on a beautiful outdoor patio that overlooks the river.
In terms of tours, there is the option for a 1.5-hour and 2.5-hour river trip, a 2-hour paddling trip, and a tubing experience down the Argo Cascades. The Gallup Livery provides a van shuttle upriver. Due to a large number of canoes and kayaks available, no reservations are necessary! Rentals and tours run from the end of May to the end of October but are weather and water-level dependent. If you'd like to get out on the water with little ones, Gallup Park recommends their Stillwater Paddling in the Reservoirs tour. This is a great option for families or beginning paddlers. No van ride is needed. You can simply hop inside a boat and paddle easily where there is little to no current.
In addition to river-based activities, Gallup Park offers a 3.25-mile asphalt trail which is popular for running, cycling, and skating. Many people enjoy coming to the park to take photos or relax on the picturesque bridges and walkways. With playgrounds, picnic pavilions, and nature areas, its easy to spend an entire day here.
