Hiking, biking, equestrians, and dogs are all welcome on the 28-mile Galisteo Basin Preserve (GBP). The GBP is about 25 minutes outside of Santa Fe but is worth the drive! This trail is for beginner hikers due to its lower elevation. Since there are no mountainous climbs, this trail is typically rideable all year along. While the trails are considered to be beginner level, the scenery and surroundings are what draw the masses. The beautiful desert terrain, local wildflowers, and bright sunsets are worth the ride.
The GBP is a community development of almost 10,000 acres of trails, sandstone formations, grasslands and more. Today, the preserve is welcomed by thousands of residents and visitors each year. The preserve was protected by the Commonweal Conservancy which is a Santa Fe based nonprofit that focuses on protecting and restoring thousands of acres of open space and trails for community use.
