You should be standing on the northeast corner of Randolph and LaSalle St in downtown Chicago - in the shadow of the stunning all-glass facade State of Illinois Building. The first piece of public art on this tour is going to be one of the only that you can't get up close to and interact with. This piece sits on the facade of the Michael A. Bilandic Building between floors 7 and 8. From where you're standing look across LaSalle St (west) and then look 7 floors up. You should be staring at Mr. Hunt's masterpiece.
Don't be deceived. This stainless steel work of art is massive. It spans two office floors, measuring 26 x 35 ft and weighing more than 3 tons! Richard Hunt calls Chicago home and studied locally at the Art Institute of Chicago. He has graced our streets with other pieces of art (see below) which follow a similar style of blending the natural with the industrial.
