Designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935, Fallingwater is a must-hit spot when exploring Pittsburgh. Situated in rural southwestern Pennsylvania, the home pays homage to its gorgeous green surroundings. The structure is built into the landscape, partly over a waterfall on Bear Run in the Allegheny Mountains.
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966, the house was designed to be a weekend home for the Kaufmann family, integral players in the Pittsburgh business world and owners of Kaufmann's Department Store. The family used it from 1937 until 1963, when Edgar Kaufmann Jr. donated the property to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.
The design literally thrusts visitors into the beautiful Pennsylvania landscape, to pay tribute to its surroundings. The building also houses the Fallingwater Café, which offers visitors the perfect place to experience the surroundings. Its local coffee and house-made food are inspired by the regional culinary history of southwest Pennsylvania.
Although the public is not allowed to bring drones, see some fascinating, aerial views of this architectural landmark in the video below:
