Just as the name suggests, Empire Control Room and Garage is a recently converted auto body garage that is now a cavernous warehouse music venue skewing towards the hip-hop, electronic, and experimental end of the music spectrum. the often host Austin staples in other genres like local legend Gary Clark Jr.
Empire Control Room and Garage opened as a year around club by Steve Sternschein in 2013 after having been beloved SXSW venue for a couple of years. The music schedule here is truly incredible as there seems to be a new band playing on every stage almost around the clock. Empire Control Room genuinely supports all varieties of local musicians and embraces the local underground music scene.
Even in the spectrum of a music venue, Empire Control Room is a particularly experimental and raucous environment. It is essentially three venues in one with roadshows and concerts going on simultaneously inside and out along with a bar featuring DJs splices between the two. Empire is the new kid on the block in a legendary part of the city, but it has swiftly made a name for itself as it takes on the mantle of pushing the boundaries of Austin music traditions ever further.
