Divine Barrel Brewing is a brewery located in the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte. The taproom at Divine Barrel Brewings curates a diverse tap list, live music, and an environment that encourages community so that everyone can imbibe in a comfortable setting. Divine Barrel has a strong focus on wood fermented barrel-aged wilds and sour beers. Divine Barrel employs the use of oak foeders (large oak barrels), wine, spirits, barrels, and time to produce creative and approachable beers.
One of the more creative beers at Divine Barrel Brewing is the locally famous Holiday in Berlin. The Holiday in Berlin is a traditional 50/50 malt bill of half pilsner malt and half wheat malt, which allows for a smooth, yet crisp base, while the lactobacillus produces a clean yet pronounced lactic sourness. It has a pleasant bready character, notes of juicy lemon and some restrained tropical fruit thanks to the house Berliner yeast strain. Berliner style beers have a reputation for being something of an acquired taste, but like all sours if given a chance with repeated drinking it is one of the more popular styles with seasoned beer drinkers.
The obsession for wild yeast and mixed-culture fermentation is the inspiration behind the name Divine Barrel Brewing. When dealing with wild yeast and bacteria, which can be fickle at the best of times, you often need a little help from the universe. Some may call it luck, others might call it fate and some would even go so far as to call it divine intervention. Whatever the reason, Divine Barrel Brewing has taken its place as one of the best breweries in Charlotte.
