Located in the heart of downtown Encinitas, Death by Tequila is a Baja restaurant and tequila bar that considers itself a place of delicious contrasts. The food expresses vibrant cuisines, the local surf culture, and the rebellious spirit of tequila drinkers. The interior of the restaurant itself is playful and colorful; designed to complement the experimental dishes that burst with color and elevated flavors. Each dish is made with the freshest, organic ingredients handpicked from local coastal farms each day. Every dish on the menu is inspired by authentic Baja ingredients with its own twist.
To start it all off, begin with a traditional order of salsa and guacamole. Or try the pineapple chipotle which is made with avocado, smoked chile, agave, and lime. The restaurant offers a guacamole flight con salsa which allows customers to try the wood fire salsa, the traditional salsa, poblano pepita, and pineapple chipotle guacamole. For your entree, Death by Tequila serves a variety of Ensaladas such as the Baja street tostadas and Baja street tacos. Locals love the market fish tacos which is served with guacamole, coriander-sesame, mustard aioli, pickled onion, and kaffir salt.
This spot is popular among locals to gather after dark and sip handcrafted cocktails. Here one can enjoy a Smugglers' List of fine tequila and mezcal you won’t find anywhere else in San Diego. For cocktails, try their el jefe which is mezcal, carpano, campari, and orange. For a more refreshing choice, try the guava marea which is blanco, guava, passionfruit, and tiki bitters. If you are in the mood for just a classic margarita, the restaurant offers six different flavors including cucumber, mango, jalapeno, pineapple, mint, and strawberry.
On Sunday, the menu includes all-American brunch favorites and Baja-inspired signature dinner dishes for customers. From the traditional huevos rancheros to french toast, brunch at Death by Tequila is like no other.
