Released in theaters in 2016, American Honey tells the story of a group of young con artist nomads that wander through the Midwest selling magazine subscriptions. Director Andrea Arnold’s American Honey had six filming locations in and around Kansas City, Missouri.
The movie stars many talented actors including McCaul Lombardi, Sasha Lane, Riley Keough, and Shia LaBeouf. American Honey won the Jury Prize at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. The nearly three-hour movie was entirely shot within the states of Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa, North Dakota, and Nebraska over a mere 56 days.
The filming locations in Kansas City include a house near Ward Parkway on 3811 W 65th Terrace situated in the suburb of Mission Hills. In the scene, Shia LaBeouf is chasing Lane down a street full of large trees, suburban-style houses, and green grass. He eventually catches up with her and lightly tackles her to the grass and begins kissing her in the front yard of this house.
Several scenes were filmed here in the Days Inn by Wyndham Independence in the suburb of Independence, Missouri. The shots include the exterior and interior of the hotel as well as substantial scenes taking place in the parking lot. Other aspects of Kansas City that appear in American Honey include several moving shots while driving along the interstates near downtown.
