You should be standing in front of the entrance to the Chicago Cultural Center looking at a life-size cow with a straight-forward name, “The Bronze Cow"

You might (or might not) recall the phenomenon called "Cos on Parade" that took the world by storm in 1999. If you do then this will look familiar, but if you don't allow us to fill you in. In 1999 a Chicago shoe retailer named Peter Hanig saw decorated cows on display while visiting Zurich, Switzerland. These "Cows on Parade" in Switzerland were the brainchild of Walter Knapp who was influenced by a similar exhibition of lions on display around the city of Zurich in 1986. Hanig was so impressed that he teamed up Chicago’s cultural affairs commissioner to bring more than 320 life-size fiberglass cows, decorated in a variety of ways, to the streets of Chicago. And it was a huge hit! Soon Cows on Parade spread throughout the globe!
