Established in 1993, Cowgirl has become a local favorite for both food and drinks. They made this list for their fun atmosphere with live music and dancing as well as their exceptional drink menu, however, they also have amazing food that provides a deep southwestern BBQ with a twist. With live music every night, this is a spot you can't miss!
The history of the Cowgirl started in 1987 in New York City. Two women, one from Texas and one from Colorado, wanted to promote the culture of the American Cowgirl through food. Adding a chef from south Texas to their team, the women started compiling family recipes to start building their Cowgirl menu. After partnering with the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame & Western Heritage Museum in Texas, the first Cowgirl Hall of Fame Restaurant opened in Manhattan, New York on Valentine's Day 1988. Instantly, New Yorkers fell in love with the Cowgirl Hall of Fame restaurant and raved over the savory flavors of authentic BBQ and comfort food. With the success in New York, Cowgirl was ready to expand to the True West, and that's when it was decided that the next restaurant would open in Santa Fe, NM. In 1993, the Cowgirl opened in Santa Fe in a historic one-hundred-year-old building in the Guadalupe district. Cowgirl continued to expand in their location in Santa Fe and now occupies almost the entire block. Today, the patio, restaurant, and bar is one of the most inviting summertime venues for locals and tourists alike.
The Cowgirl Tap Room features beers both local to Santa Fe and around New Mexico as well as some brews from Colorado breweries. If you're not a beer drinker, you definitely need to try the margaritas made with 100% agave. Can't decide between a beer or a margarita? Try the Lava Lamp which is a frozen marg in a pint of Pilsner! If you're looking for a Southwestern cocktail then you can't go wrong with the mezcal mule!
If you're still looking for some convincing about why you should go to the Cowgirl, then these awards will make you realize it's a spot you can't miss. TripExpert has listed Cowgirl as an Expert's Choice and has awarded them with their Best of Santa Fe award. USA Today awarded Cowgirl with the Readers' Choice award in 2018 and Rachel Ray featured Cowgirl on her Forty Dollars a Day segment.
