Comet Cafe

If you're looking for classic Milwaukee, head down to Comet Cafe on the Lower Eastside and grab yourself some of Wisconsin's award-winning comfort food. This joint has been featured in the likes of Condé Nast Magazine, Vegan Milwaukee, On Milwaukee and the Examiner. It was even crowned best vegetarian food in Milwaukee by the Milwaukee Sun-Times.

Despite their numerous awards, there is a clear lack of pretense at Comet. Opened in 1995, they've been serving up giant portions of home-cooked flavors for years. Some popular items include the Classic Comet Meatloaf and the Charlie Melt (their unique take on the classic Tuna Melt). Get a sneak peek at some of their creations on an episode of Destination Bacon below.

The atmosphere here is casual and welcoming. While the decor may not be noteworthy, the care they give each guest is. This place drips comfort through and through. If you stop by, make sure to plan for a potential wait as it remained quite popular since its inception.
