City Market

When you stand at the corner of West St. Julian and Jefferson Streets in downtown Savannah, you’ll find yourself in the center of four blocks filled with galleries, bistros, boutiques, and bars. Local artists showcase their work in the Art Center and in small galleries that line the brick-paved courtyards. City Market is a great place to shop for one-of-a-kind souvenirs like hand-crafted jewelry, woven sweetgrass baskets, and paintings of Savannah’s historic buildings and romantic riverfront.

What to do

Browse the boutique shops for clothes, shoes, and accessories from local designers and national brands. There’s even a place where you can buy Georgia Bulldogs gear for your dog. Woof Gang at Home is the place to shop for pet-themed home goods and tasty treats for Fido. Grab a bite to eat at one of the market’s many bistros serving up southern specialties and don’t forget dessert! Satisfy your sweet tooth with gourmet caramel apples from Savannah’s Candy Kitchen or bite into a Benne Wafer at Byrd’s Famous Cookies.

The fun doesn’t end at sundown. As the skies fade to grey, the streets of City Market only get livelier. Order a daiquiri-to-go and sip it as you saunter along the square listening to street musicians or claim a bar stool and turn your attention to the stage where up-and-coming bands play cover tunes and original music for enthusiastic audiences. Check out the City Market website for holiday celebrations and other special events held throughout the year.
