Hi! I'm Claire an avid traveler and Digital Nomad. At 34 I sold all my worldly possessions that wouldn’t fit into 3 boxes or in my backpack and hit the road.

Now I know there is a Chinatown in Manhatten, and I love it! But if you want to take it one step further you need to go to Flushing! For those of you who don't know, Flushing is the area of New York City where there is a very large population of Chinese people living. Trust me, when you step off the train you are going to feel like you are in another country. Just take a look at the video below to see what I mean.

To get here you need to take the seven train all the way to Flushing. When you get off the train next to the station is a mall called New World Mall. This is where you are going to find the good stuff... FOOD!

Go inside and head up to the top floor. Don’t be surprised if you are the only non-Asian in there and if people look at you a little strange. These are all signs that will let you know you are in the right place to get some of the best Chinese food outside of China! Oh, and did I mention how cheap it is!?

Be warned though, no one is going to speak English and the menu will be in Chinese. So unless you speak and read Mandarin (lucky you), you are going to have to take your chances and get used to pointing and smiling a lot. The way it works in here is women walk around with a trolley full of food. They will ask you if you want something and show you what they have. Then you just have to point at what you want. Last time I went with a friend we ate a lot of dim sum, drank a lot of tea, and the bill was under $25, which is almost unheard of in New York City. Not sure what to eat and want to try the amore tactical approach? Then take a look at this great guide to eating in Flushing.
