The mission of the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose is to inspire creativity, curiosity, and lifelong learning. One of the largest museums of its kind, it features hands-on exhibits that are simultaneously fun and educational. This award-winning museum has welcomed more than 9 million guests of all ages since opening in 1990. Residents and out-of-town visitors come to play and learn from exhibits about the arts, science, nature, culture, and safety. The museum’s west wing has rotating exhibits that change every 3-4 months.

An outdoor expansion called Bill’s Backyard is a space where kids can walk from tree to tree on skybridges, learn about animal habitats in the Lookout Tower and Tunnel, experiment with natural materials in the Dig Pit and at the Dry Creek, and see where food comes from in the Garden.
The facility is located in Guadalupe River Park, so you can pack a lunch and eat outside in the sunshine, or try a tasty treat from FoodShed, the museum’s on-site café, which uses locally sourced fresh produce.
In addition to the indoor and outdoor exhibits, the museum hosts daily activities and scheduled events for kids and their families. It welcomes guests of all abilities by providing programs and resources that take their special needs into consideration.
