Digital Storytelling and Visitor Analytics for City and Cultural Institutions
Chicago Helicopter Experience offers a unique way to experience the city by gliding above the buildings in one of their luxury helicopters that can seat up to six people. The company was founded in 2011 by Trevor Heffernan, a Western Michigan University graduate. He loved the city, but had a soft spot for his grandparents’ farm up north. So naturally, he bought a helicopter and became a pilot to shorten the commute. After flying his friends and family around Chicago for free, he decided that since nobody was doing this commercially, he should start a business. Thus, the Chicago Helicopter Experience was born. Trevor’s business has blossomed into a multi-million dollar industry. But, they still always put the customer first. They offer 6 different types of tours including day tours, night tours, and even a fireworks tour. Customers can also purchase packages like the air and water package, which includes a helicopter tour as well as a shoreline architectural boat cruise. If you have a special birthday or even proposal you want to celebrate during the ride, their team of experts works with you to plan out an event you will never forget.
Once you book your tour, passengers should arrive 90 minutes before their scheduled flight. Conveniently by the orange line, their 6,000 square foot customer experience center is filled with activities like games and even a flight simulator. Chicago Helicopter Experience also has a section for the history of helicopters so you can learn some fun facts before your flight takes off. Once they are ready for your group, you are divided based upon weight and seated accordingly in the helicopter. Make sure that you are under 250 pounds, otherwise you will have to purchase an extra seat. You can’t lie about your weight either, because they weigh you once you get there to ensure that the weight proportions are exact in the aircraft due to safety regulations. They always try to keep couples together, and do their best at figuring out who should go where. There is a perfect view from every seat in the aircraft, so don’t worry if you are in the middle. After going of safety procedures and watching an informational video, passengers walk outside near the aircraft, get their photo taken, and board for takeoff.
Chicago Helicopter Experience also strongly encourages passengers to bring cameras to document their experience in the air, and witness the wonders of the city of Chicago from up above. Book your flight today to have an experience of a lifetime.
