The James Beard Awards are the Oscars of food, and, like the Oscars, even being nominated for one means you're a master of your craft. Chef Cindy Wolf has been nominated for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic eight separate times. But that's not why you should eat her food. You should come to Charleston for a true taste of Southern hospitality.
At Charleston, Chef Wolf serves classic Southern food with a dash of European flair, serving buffalo mozzarella and chanterelle mushroom tarts on the same menu as Maryland crab cakes, cornmeal fried oysters, and local peach crisps. Also boasting an impressive wine list and a (relatively) budget-friendly customizable menu structure, Charleston is the perfect place to go for any special occasion. Want proof? Take a gander at this video from Baltimore Magazine.
The staff at Charleston alone are a reason to visit the restaurant. Living up to the hype is the name of the game here, and the Baltimore Sun has described the waiters as, "at once authoritative and personable." Even the most intimidating dishes are made to feel familiar here, and lots of them are approachable classics like shrimp and grits and roasted corn bisque with lobster. Whatever you do, don't miss dessert. You're sure to have a stellar experience.
