Digital Storytelling and Visitor Analytics for City and Cultural Institutions
Looking for a peaceful spot to eat lunch on the water while sailboats from local colleges? How about a scenic walk along the Charles River, looking at the Cambridge skyline? The Charles River Esplanade is the perfect spot to feel like you stepped out of the city without going too far out of downtown.
The park is full of multiple playgrounds, walkways, ball fields, a Community Boating house, as well as the Hatch Memorial Shell performance stage. During the Fourth of July, thousands line the Esplanade to watch the fireworks display and listen to the Boston Pop's as well as guest artists perform.
Even when it is not the Fourth of July, many events take place at the Hatch Shell. Local charities organize walks along the water such as the Jimmy Fund Fit Fest or the March for Dimes marches. Many of the local colleges and church orchestras also perform throughout the spring and summer months providing an array of classical favorites and music from around the world to enjoy as the sun sets in the city.
Friday nights during the summertime, the Hatch Shell transforms into an outdoor movie theater showing G and PG-rated family movies. You can catch some of your favorite Disney stories for free - but food will cost you so pack some snacks along with your blankets and lawn chairs.
