Cartel Coffee Lab

Over a decade ago, Jason Silberschlag was at a crossroads. His job was ending, and he wasn't excited about going to work for anyone else. So he and his wife Amy decided to pursue a passion: Coffee. They researched for a year and a half before opening their first Cartel Coffee Lab in Tempe. Today, they own six cafes, two of which are in Tucson, as well as supply coffee to a multitude of hotels and cafes across Arizona.

The pair chose the name Cartel as it implies a certain sort of riskiness, of being hardcore. Cartel is known for being dedicated to transparency when it comes to where their beans come from, along with how they are roasted and brewed. Cartel even allows the farmers to name the coffees their beans ultimately produce.

Cartel's Broadway location has an industrial steampunk vibe that makes it particularly Instagrammable. Add to the overall ambiance their ample seating, funky light fixtures and decorations, and killer latte art and you've got all the ingredients you need for a winning shot. Take a picture through the myriad of bicycle spokes hanging from the ceiling or grab one of the mounted deer for maximum traction online.
