Busted Sandal Brewing is operated under the pretense that a great beer can be brewed in an energy-efficient facility, powered completely by electricity as well as being hand-crafted with locally sourced seasonal ingredients where possible.
Busted Sandal Brewing Company, a veteran-owned brewery, was founded after a fated trip to a brewery in Austin. The two owners were admiring the atmosphere of the pub and wished there was something similar in their hometown of San Antonio. Although several beers in, the two vowed to open a similar brewery where guests could have the same great experience. As they were leaving the brewery, still rambling on about their plans, one of them almost tripped over an object in the parking lot. It happened to be a worn sandal and inspired the name which has been operating since 2013.
Busted Sandal offers a bunch of year-round beers, including the lightly sweet 210 Ale, the flavorful and refreshing Fire Pit Wit, Slippery Rock IPA, and their chocolate and roasted coffee-flavored El Robusto Porter. The Jeffewiezen is lovingly named after their Head Brewer Jeff and the Finding Friday Mexican Lager honors their favorite local cover band.
Their La Chancla Series is a collection of special release beers that reflect Busted Sandal's passion for handcrafting different styles of beer for every palate. Some of these include the medium-bodied Citra hopped Tanlines Pale Ale, full-bodied Hop Dong IPA, limited release Watermelon 210 Ale, El Gourdo Pumpkin Porter, and Roccoco Imperial Coconut Brown Ale which is brewed with 100 pounds of toasted coconut.
In 2015, to develop a coffee porter unlike the others, Busted Sandal established a partnership with local San Antonio Brown Coffee Company who sources coffee beans by traveling to and building strong relationships with coffee farmers around the world. The result of these top-quality beans and craft beer is Busted Sandal's El Despierto Coffee Porter.
