Digital Storytelling and Visitor Analytics for City and Cultural Institutions

It is well known by locals and visitors alike that The Broken Spoke is one of the best honky tonk style dance halls and live music venues anywhere. What sometimes goes overlooked to visitors, is that The Broken Spoke also serves up some of the most delicious and classic Texan food in the city. The Broken Spoke opened for business in November of 1964. The food was actually the original draw of the Broken Spoke since at first it was just a cafe with a jukebox. Not one to pass up an opportunity, owner James White expanded the space into a full on honky tonk. The transition involved adding neon-lights, pool tables, and of course a stage. Thankfully the food didn't suffer one bit from the transformation.

The menu at the Broken Spoke features a wide variety of classic Austin fare. You can order chicken fajitas, slow smoked brisket, nachos, or a greasy spoon burger. Everyone can find something they want on the menu at the Broken Spoke. The real star though is the good old fashioned chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes all covered in white country gravy. No where else in the city does great atmosphere, spectacular music, and tasty food like the Broken Spoke does. Go for the chicken fried steak and stay for the two-steppin.
