Kayaking the Black Canyon on the lower Colorado River is one of the most enjoyable outdoor adventures available in the Las Vegas region. Typically, this part of the river has slow-moving flatwater without rapids making it a perfect trip for both beginners and experienced paddlers. Desert Adventures, a popular local outfitter, organizes a wide range of activities guaranteed to suit any adventurer. For example, there are cycling, kayaking, backpacking, hiking, and zipline tours. They even offer multi-day river trips, paddling classes, and instructional kayak lessons.
You can experience the beauty of the Black Canyon on a kayak or canoe. Trips depart from the base of the Hoover Dam. During the tour, there are opportunities to soak in a natural hot spring, explore coves and caves, and observe wildlife such as hawks, birds, lizards, and desert bighorn sheep.
Most days the river offers calm, glassy waters. However, it's important to note that kayakers may experience swells or choppy water on windy days. Trips depart year-round with fall and winter offering the best opportunity for a smooth trip. The summer season is busy but it's a great time to enjoy the refreshingly cool waters of the river. During April and May, you can spot newborn wildlife and spring wildflowers, however, this is also when the river is most turbulent. Take some time to explore the link below to find the Black Canyon tour that's right for you and your crew.
