“The Insider's Guide” Of Where To Go And What To Do In Chicago
The Biograph is a Chicago Landmark that has been around since 1914 as an old movie theater. Its antiqueness made it the perfect location for movies such as "Public Enemies", "High Fidelity", and "About Last Night."
Johnny Depp plays the infamous Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger in 2009's "Public Enemies". The director decided to shoot the movie's death scene at the same place the real-life John Dillinger was shot and killed. "About Last Night" (2014), starring Kevin Hart and Michael Ealy, had many scenes shot in Chicago, including in front of the theater. You can see The Biograph in the background where Danny (Ealy) is standing across the street from it. In "High Fidelity" (2000), the main character Rob Gordon (John Cusack) owns a record store in Chicago that isn't doing so well. The bar that Rob goes to hear Marie De Salle (Lisa Bonet) play at is across the street from the Biograph Theater (now the Soiree Bar Lounge). The character even points out the theater as the place where John Dillinger was shot!
The historic Biograph Theater is still operational today and now owned by Victory Gardens. In 2001, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places but it will forever be known as the place where John Dillinger took his last breath.
