Owned by The Blackstone Group and operated by MGM Resorts International, the Bellagio Resort was built in 1996 on the site of the demolished Dunes hotel and nowadays it is one of the most luxurious hotels in Las Vegas. Its original design and construction cost of US$1.6 billion. This resort was inspired by the Lake Como town of Bellagio in Italy.
Bellagio's design architect was DeRuyter Butler, and Peter Smith was the project executive. The interior designer was the architect Roger Thomas, vice president of design for Wynn Design & Development and principal of the Roger Thomas Collection. The opening of the resort occurred in 1998 and the ceremony cost US$88 million. By that time, Bellagio was the most expensive hotel ever built.
