“The Insider's Guide” Of Where To Go And What To Do In Chicago
Just steps from the best shopping boutiques and the Armitage Brown Line is an ice cream shop featuring homemade Italian ice. Annette’s was founded in 2005 by Annette Frankos and her husband George, who had owned and operated several restaurants in the past. Their love for ice cream, Italian ice, and other frozen treats led them to open up this hidden gem in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
Although Annette’s husband passed in 2013, she kept their ice cream shop running and it continues to be a place where you can gather with friends and family to enjoy their sweet treats. Their walk-up window is a crowd favorite, which allows you to enjoy their ice cream sitting outside or on the go. Annette’s Italian ice is homemade in-house daily. With no artificial flavors or coloring, their Italian ice is also dairy free, vegan, gluten free, and egg free. You have more than 20 different flavors to choose from and you will notice they aren't as sugary as other Italian ice places.
Besides Italian ice, they also serve Ashby’s ice cream, which has won many awards for its quality including the LA County Fair and World Dairy Expo. Their menu also boasts frozen yogurt, shakes and smoothies, brownie sundaes, banana splits, and ice cream sandwiches. While they are only open seasonally (Saturday before St. Patricks day until the Saturday before Thanksgiving), you will not want to miss stopping here in the warmer months and enjoying the afternoon hustle of Lincoln Park.
