Choose Chicago
Written By Choose Chicago

Choose Chicago® is the official destination marketing organization for Chicago, Illinois. When you’re in Chicago, you’re home. With the countless experiences there are to have here, you're absolutely welcome to do any and all of them.

When your GPS takes you to 1520 N. Damen Ave, stop. Don't drive around asking for directions because you think that your maps app is purposefully messing with you. You are probably where you are supposed to be. Some days the front door to The Violet Hour is all but invisible. It is often hidden in plain sight behind a wall painted over with an ever changing mural. Sometimes a pure red wall, sometimes a strange mosaic, other times a naked cartoon man. The front door to the Violet Hour is unmarked, save for a bright yellow light above the threshold.

If you want to get inside of the Violet Hour, you have to wait. You can't open the door from the outside and no one will answer if you knock. Once in a while, the bouncer will check the door, and if he likes the look of the people waiting outside, he will let them in. Just make sure you a dressed nicely: the Violet Hour has some house rules.

The House rules

No cell phones. Proper attire requested (no baseball hats). No reservations. No o-bombs, jager-bombs, or bombs of any kind. No Budweiser, light beer, Grey Goose, or cosmopolitans. Please do not bring anyone to the Violet Hour that you wouldn't bring to your mother's house for Sunday dinner   -  http://www.theviolethour.com/rules/

The Violet Hour is the side of Chicago you rarely see. It is the back-door bar that dresses itself up in blazers and stilettos. It is the classy underbelly of the city of Chicago.
