Digital Storytelling and Visitor Analytics for City and Cultural Institutions
Milwaukee is known for a couple of culinary items such as their cheese curds and intense Bloody Mary's. Both of which can be truly experienced at AJ Bombers. It's also known as one of the best places in the city to get a burger.
Owner Joe Sorge wrote the book Twitterworks, which explains how AJ Bombers launched itself into popularity with the 20- and 30- something crowd who use Twitter and social media to check-in. They even go so far as to feature a live Twitter feed on one of the tv screens above the bar. The little details in service here are what make it such a fan favorite. Sorge and his wife own a number of local establishments including Swig, Smoke Shack, and Water Buffalo.
Despite the graffiti-laden and peanut-shell-covered atmosphere, AJ Bombers has won Food Wars, and they don't seem to be slowing down. Don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table on a Monday. If you're lucky enough to have a booth across the bar, keep an eye out for the "Drop Zone". This overhead contraption delivers peanuts from the bar right to your table.
AJ Bombers led the way for burger creativity in Milwaukee. Try the Barrie Burger if you're a peanut butter fan, or, you can't go wrong with the Milwaukee Burger which is the burger that won Food Wars.
The signature burger is aptly named "The Bomber Burger". This 1/4-pound patty comes dressed with a portobello mushroom cap stuffed with cheddar and Muenster cheese, American Cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a house thousand island dressing.
