MEDIA ARCHITECTURE DESIGN EDMONTON I Supporting the creative community in Edmonton by hosting events and providing opportunities for local designers

This Vamonde Adventure draws its content from the MADE In Situ event on Saturday June 23, 2018. The event was hosted by two designers from DIALOG directly involved in the Funicular project. The tour was the first installment of MADE's (Media Architecture Design Edmonton) In Situ series. It was guided by two members of the design team on site. Future In Situ events can be found at joinmade.org and on Facebook. In Situ takes design discussions out of the lecture hall and into the real world.

MADE was founded in 2000 by a group of Edmonton architects and designers with strong support from Manasc Isaac Architects and many others. The founders recognized a need for better discourse and better resources for the design community in Edmonton. This included the goals of educating the public about design, and providing professional development for more involved community members. As Edmonton's design community has matured, MADE's purpose has also shifted. In recent years, as the number of design events and organizations has multiplied, MADE's focus has gone from simply building a community to improving that community. From conferences like BarnRaise Edmonton, to our Sheltered|Exposed exhibition, MADE has sought to showcase and improve the design work happening here, as well as increase awareness of the broader implications of design practice. As we move forward, MADE must address the big questions in contemporary design here. What does it mean to be a designer on Treaty 6 territory? How do we do more in the fights against climate change, poverty, and other injustices? What role do designers have to play in diversifying our economy to meet the challenges of the future? Answering these questions is crucial to our city. We plan to do all we can to facilitate these discussions, and most importantly, keep making things happen.
