Across A Crowded Room is a program that seeks to help new musical theatre writers find collaborators and write and present a 20 minute musical over the course of the summer. The 2019 iteration will feature masterclasses by Nancy Ford (composer of I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking it On The Road, Susan Birkenhead (lyricist for The Secret Life of Bees), and others.
This year, in connection with the Harold Prince exhibition opening in fall of 2019, participants are prompted to write a musical in the world of another Harold Prince musical (e.g. write a musical about the mom of one of the Sharks in West Side Story).
We will meet five times throughout the summer. On the following Saturdays from 11:00-1:00:
July 13: Mixer
July 27: Bookwriting masterclass
August 3: Composing masterclass
August 24: Lyrics masterclass
And from 11-5:30 on Saturday, September 28: Final presentations
Please only sign up if you can attend most dates (most importantly the mixer and the final event of September 28). Also, PLEASE ONLY SIGN UP FOR ONE CATEGORY.
